2008 Indonesia. This team worked with a local ministry teaching English. Because of the sensitivity of this ministry details have been kept vague.
2009 Thailand. The three women on our team wonderful with the children and teenagers. They were energetic, inspiring, and well-loved as they led games, crafts, Bible stories and devotions. They will be long-remembered there, as the children at the Center were sad to see them go. The two pastors on our team led a seminar for parents, preached sermons at 3 different churches, and taught church leadership to 35 pastors and church leaders who came to the local Bible School one day for the seminar.
All of us also travelled to two different villages that were very remote, where our host mastered the very "interesting" roads. One of the villages was mostly Christian, and we took over the local school for a few hours the day we were there. The other village was completely Buddhist, but they also let us speak to the children after school. The children said they had never heard about God before--never! To drive down such roads to a village where they had never heard of God truly is travelling "to the ends of the earth"!
2009 Hong Kong. The two women on this team have both worked on short-term teams before. They both taught English using a Biblical curriculum. This host ministry is great at making sure the short-term team has plenty of time to create great friendships with the students there. Each day they are blessed to spend meals, free time, and class time with many students. Great friendship bonds are formed and the word of Christ is shared.
2009 Turkey. This team of 4 worked in various ways in a land that is less then 1% Christian. In a land where the apostle Paul once walked there are almost no Christians to be found or churches to be seen. This team worked in schools teaching English, helped with a women's conference and helped with the friendship ministry that is currently being done.
2009 Kenya. This team of seven went out into the village in Kenya. This was the third time our teams have been to this location, and it was like going home to visit family. This team had a children's program during the week for about 200 children. You learn kids are kids in all nations. Some may have more than others but they all fight over crayons and they all need love and Jesus Christ. They lead a marriage conference and a youth conference, and had nightly evangelical meetings. We were blessed to be a part of 10 baptisms, and celebrate the host churches 10th anniversary in the village. For the first time ever a brass band, the church and our team had the first parade ever seen there. If the brass band wasn't enough of a sight, the 7 white Americans walking through the middle of a village very far off the beaten path will have people talking for years to come. Of course what we want them to remember the most is we came to share JESUS. This host ministry does an incredible work in the village. Our team was able to teach, preach, love and be loved.
2009 Ukraine. This team heald a camp for 25 parents and 25 disabled or diabetic kids. This is a wonderful ministry. Often these families are in their homes most of the time, unable to get out if their kids are in wheelchairs. This is a week of fun, love, and of course Jesus is the key to the entire ministry. This is one week where the parents get to have fun, fellowship, and relax a bit. It may be hard for us to understand how much this is needed for what they go through daily. These are wonderful kids, and incredible parents. It is a joy for our team to share love, fun, fellowship and Jesus with them.
2009 Ghana. This team went and did a variety of things. They taught in local schools, gave a marriage conference, a youth conference, led a large Vacation Bible School, and much more. They had a wonderful ministry working with Pastor James and his wife Margaret.
2010 Brazil. This team went and stayed at a men's drug and alcohol rehabilitation center. This is an incredible ministry where we spend night and day with the men. We form strong relationships, openly talk about Christ, teach each day and work next to the men in their recovery program. The staff we worked with was just wonderful, and the ministry God put before us was great.
2010 Thailand. This team went and taught in local schools, led a pastor's conference, led a vacation bible school, and went to local villages to teach about Christ. This was a wonderful ministry, they went to villages that had only heard of Christ the year before when our team went in 2009. The foundation was set, the local ministry worked with this village, and again our team had the chance to go and teach about Christ.
2010 Kenya. Our team went and worked with a local ministry that helps reunited street boys with their families. We often hear that this is impossible. But that is not the case. Capstone Ministries, does an incredible job working with families and the boys on the street. Our team had a vacation bible school at their center for the boys that are in the process of being re-united with families, as well as the kids in that local village. We had another large vacation bible school for another village in the area, and a marriage conference.
2010 Ukraine. This heald a camp for 25 parents and 25 handicap or diabetic kids. Our teams have led this camp for many years now. It is always a fantastic time for fun, fellowship, and teaching about Christ. The handicap in Ukraine are not able to get out of their homes as we can here in the United States. They don't have the access out of their apartments, into stores, etc. So this is sometimes one of the few times out of the year they get out of their homes. Our team also goes to visit the wheel chair ministry that is a part of this host ministry. Delivering wheel chairs to those in need.
